Obama picks Biden
August 23, 2008 by admin.
The press is printing biographical summaries about Joseph Biden now that he has been selected as Obama’s running mate. They show he was born in Pennsylvania.
I always thought he was from Great Britain. Or are only his speeches from Britain???

China uses lip-sync child in opening ceremony
August 12, 2008 by admin.
China is coming under increasing criticism for having a nine-year-old girl lip-sync a song sung by a less cute seven-year-old in the Olympics’ opening ceremonies.
Who cares? When it was done to Barney Fife, everyone thought it was hilarious. Why is it so wrong now?

Russia urges nations: “Join NATO”
August 11, 2008 by admin.
The Russian attack on Georgia will not only confirm why NATO is still relevant, but it will also encourage more nations that lived in Iron Fear to apply for membership. Georgia cannot stand up to Russia - and this is the precise reason why smaller nations join defense alliances.

Olympics in China
July 31, 2008 by admin.
Everyone expected western visitors to China to return with tales about human rights and Tibet. But I’ll bet they’ll all come back talking about toilets and pollution.

English as official language
July 30, 2008 by admin.
If we adopt English as the official language, will we finally be able to replace the Latin gibberish on our currency?

You have the right to remain silent . . .
July 23, 2008 by admin.
Someone should remind Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick of his rights. This repeated crying about how weak the prosecutor’s case is (a case he continually tries to block at every turn) and how a Black prosecutor is conducting a racist vendetta isn’t even amusing theatre anymore.

Horse racing near an airport?
July 13, 2008 by admin.
The Detroit Free Press today ran an article about the Pinnacle Race course, built on county-donated land adjacent to Metro Airport. The race track says it won’t seek to add slot machines (which are not currently authorized under Michigan law).
I have questioned the wisdom of this project since it was first announced a few years ago. So here’s my prediction of the future:
(1) The airplanes “spook” the horses, and live racing is drastically slashed;
(2) Not being able to make money from a reduced race schedule, booze, and simulcasts, the racetrack soon asks the state to change the law so it can add slot machines.
When this happens, if they’re smart, they’ll add shuttle bus service so people making connections at the airport can take a free ride over to the mini-casino.

Who will help the inmates’ children?
July 13, 2008 by admin.
The Detroit Free Press ran a column today asking the State to help fund programs that help children deal with the emotional trauma of an incarcerated parent.
“It’s for the children” is a common refrain we hear from fundraisers for legitimate and illegitimate charities. Everyone knows that using the “kid card” tugs on heartstrings.
To provide support for children, though, we need two components: money and compassion. Right now, money is tight, so asking a state government that faced shutdown a year ago seems like bad timing. And while we all have compassion for kids who didn’t commit the crime but seem (emotionally) to be doing the time, it’s hard to sympathize when so many fathers are subjecting their children to this torture. I applaud those imprisoned fathers who still take time to have contact with their kids, but they have made a huge mistake from which these children may never recover. The rest of society will never love these children as much as parents can and should, and therefore the rest of a cash-strapped society cannot be expected to step in and make everything better.

4th of July - I Love my Country
July 4, 2008 by admin.
While today the media is saying that critics of our nation are showing patriotism, too, I say this:Today we celebrate our nation’s birthday. On your friend’s birthday, you would celebrate with him and not try to “improve” him with constructive criticism about his weight, his haircut, or his choice of women. If you did so, it would sound like you were really trying to pick a fight, and not celebrating your friend’s special day.
Don’t let the media pick a fight today. They can try and persuade me some other day that draft dodgers and critics of the military are patriots, too. For today, I want to give unqualified love to my country.
